Author Rachi Ngaine Presents a Compelling Memoir Filled with Trials and Victories

By: WebWire

Rachi and his story emphasize the desire for knowledge and the individual struggles to obtain it through public schools, colleges, and universities, career decisions, and academic and professional exams. It affirms the fundamental moral principles, tenacity, and human dignity of a typical family.

Rachi is the first person in his family and village to seek an academic degree. He walked to the neighborhood schoolyard on his own and shortly after was able to enroll, managing to raise the required tuition (the equivalent of 25 cents in the United States) with the aid of his mother. Rachi assisted his mother in running their farm after his father was detained for belonging to the illegal rebel Mau Mau group. A possibility emerged to enroll in high school. Following that, while still in his teens, he worked for East Africa Railways and Harbors (EARH). The next significant event in his life was being married to Beatrice, a young woman he met in church. Rachi, who struggled to provide for his large family, immigrates to the United States for university studies thanks to a sequence of seemingly miraculous happenstances. As soon as he rose to a high academic position, he secured the required visas for his wife and daughters. His wife worked at the Kenyan embassy in the United States, and it contributes to their capacity to obtain the much desired “green card” denoting U.S. residency and eventual citizenship. Rachi then worked for the federal government as a civil servant and auditor for fifteen years.

Rachi's trials as a child are reminders of the privations endured by many people in the world's poorer nations and contrast with his admiration for American possibilities and advancement. It is admirable that he used his success to start a charity for deserving families in his Kenyan native village and Maryland USA, where he currently resides. Such activities undoubtedly stem from his steadfast Christian faith, which subtly permeates his entire narrative. The value of Rachi's work provides valuable insight to readers from home and abroad with a realistic examination of the bold actions necessary to overcome several obstacles, succeed, and give back by helping others.
