Ameresco Announces Completion of Comprehensive Upgrades at Southeast New Mexico College to Modernize Campus Infrastructure and Boost Energy Resilience

The project encompassed a suite of energy modernization improvements providing over $141,000 in annual savings for the college

20-Year Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Contract Supports Long-Term Energy Savings and Reliability at SENMC

Ameresco, Inc., (NYSE: AMRC), a leading energy solutions provider dedicated to helping customers navigate the energy transition, today announced the completion of its guaranteed utility savings project with Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC). Following an investment grade energy audit of SENMC’s facilities, SENMC entered a 20-year O&M contract with Ameresco to address needed upgrades and provide long-term cash flow, and reliability benefits well beyond the contract term.

Solar-covered parking structures at Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) provide both shade and energy generation as part of a comprehensive campus modernization project completed by Ameresco.

Solar-covered parking structures at Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) provide both shade and energy generation as part of a comprehensive campus modernization project completed by Ameresco.

As part of the comprehensive project, Ameresco installed a variety of renewable and energy efficient technologies that are estimated to save SENMC over $141,000 annually in energy savings and improve its overall energy reliability efforts. Implemented upgrades include interior and exterior LED lighting retrofits across campus, upgrading rooftop units (RTUs), replacing heat pumps and heating hot water coils, condenser evaporative cooling upgrades, updating building controls, improving the building envelope, installing high efficiency transformers, and constructing 977.7 kW-DC of solar photovoltaic covered parking.

“As a newly independent college, SENMC recently finalized its first campus master plan and five-year strategic plan. As a foundation to those plans, we needed to create the best possible environment for our students, faculty and staff,” said Dr. Kevin Beardmore, President of Southeast New Mexico College. “What started as a distant dream of replacing aging HVAC equipment, providing solar-covered parking for our students, employees, and guests, and keeping our energy costs under control has become a reality thanks to our partnership with Ameresco. The project will reduce our campus energy usage and costs, supporting our strategic plan goals related to efficiency, learning, and student success. This project was truly a collaborative effort – we very much appreciate Ameresco’s knowledge and effective implementation of state-of-the art solutions that have enabled us to better serve our campus and community.”

For SENMC, the administered upgrades are designed to enhance the reliability of facility operations, as well as improve the quality of learning and research environments for students and faculty. Ameresco completed implementation of this comprehensive energy savings project in June 2025 and provided a 20-year energy performance guarantee to SENMC for the project’s energy efficiency upgrades and renewable energy installations.

“Working with an institution like Southeast New Mexico College has been especially meaningful for us at Ameresco as we hope to introduce the next generation to the benefits of efficient and renewable energy use,” said Lou Maltezos, President of Central & Western USA, Canada Regions at Ameresco. “We commend SENMC’s leadership for prioritizing a project that will increase energy conservation, reduce energy and utility costs and address campus deferred maintenance, all in an economically responsible manner.”
