With the theme of Restore Our Earth™ for Earth Day this year, we reflect on our mission to help make the most of our world’s essential resources—including in developing world communities where there is a need for clean water from accessible sources.
At Pentair, we believe that the health of our world depends on reliable access to clean, safe water. We also believe that safe water is a fundamental human right, and foundational to freedom and economic development. These tenets drive the innovation behind the products we manufacture and exist at the heart of our philanthropic investments.
Pentair and the Pentair Foundation are working to transform the way safe water is sustainably delivered to people in need. Through Project Safewater, our holistic approach to providing safe water solutions, we collaborate with a range of partners with innovative approaches—combining technology, micro-enterprise business models, and scientific research—to provide sustainable access to safe water.
Since 2007, we have collaborated with strategic partners to implement numerous Project Safewater programs around the world. Today, through Project Safewater programs, clean, safe drinking water is provided every day to three million people in the developing world.
- Honduras – Project Safewater first launched in 2007 in collaboration with Water Mission with a groundbreaking project in Colón, Honduras that delivered safe drinking water through the sustainable operation of more than 200 safe water stations. We are now working to expand safe water access in the western region of Honduras – Lempira and Intibucá.
- India – Since 2010, Pentair and the Pentair Foundation have supported nonprofit partner, Safe Water Network, which launched the first water station in India to offer clean, filtered water at a low cost. Today there are over 260 iJal (“my water” in Hindi) water stations treating water to World Health Organization standards through reverse osmosis technology.
- Kenya – In 2013, we started working with Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) to provide greater community access to safe, accessible water in Kibera, an impoverished settlement in Nairobi, Kenya via an aerial piping system and state-of-the-art water filtration system. We have since expanded the collaboration to bring clean water to the Mathare settlement in Nairobi as well.
