Microsoft Alumnus and Technology Entrepreneur, Joel Ogunsola, was announced winner of the ICT Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the 2022 Beacon of ICT awards and lecture night. The event took place in Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday, 28th of May 2022 and was organized by the Nigerian Communications week.
The ICT Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognizes ingenious African entrepreneurs committed to creating an equitable, sustainable and profitable world by utilizing technological solutions. Joel has demonstrated this ambition by developing and sustaining various successful and dynamic solutions for MSMEs and enterprise businesses in Africa.
For Joel, technology is a tool to deliver his dreams and aspirations around achieving the sustainable development goals. He currently serves as the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Prunedge – an enterprise technology solutions company focused on using technology as a tool for solving some of the world’s greatest problems.
He also founded and leads a number of social impact enterprises like Technology for social change and development, (Tech4Dev), a non-profit social enterprise that has directly Impacted over 40,000 beneficiaries with digital skilling across 15 countries in Africa; Emerging Communities Africa, a non-profit focused on catalyzing technology ecosystems in rural and suburban communities across Africa, and GloEpid, a non-profit health platform, focused on helping to prevent the world’s next epidemic. In 2020, GloEpid helped the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) with contact tracing, self-assessment, resource management, and patient management technologies for the COVID-19 pandemic response in Nigeria.
In his remarks, while receiving the award, Joel stated that technology is a tool that creates opportunities, empowers and solves socio-economic problems. In view of this, key players in the technological space need to encourage shared progress and equal opportunities for all.
