We'll turn warmer, wetter and stormier at times during the final weekend of 2024. Sunday carries a Level 2 risk for severe weather.

Off-and-on showers build to WRAL Weather Alert Day on Sunday

Meteorologist Anthony Baglione here checking in with our forecast as we head through the rest of our weekend. We do have some storms on the way for our Sunday, so we're going to go over that. Here's kind of a look at what we're expecting impact wise. By far, what I would say the biggest impact inconvenience, however you want to phrase it, as far as our weather is concerned tomorrow, is going to be in the form of a Wind. So if you have any holiday decorations outside, if you have patio furniture sitting out, we're looking at probably about 35 to maybe 45 mile per hour gusts, I would say 35 to 40 is a pretty good bet. We're not looking at a hail event, we're not looking at a flooding event. The tornado risk is there, so we have to mention it, but it's still pretty low. I think that would be greater as we get closer to our far southern counties, even down into South Carolina, where the tornado threat would be the greatest. Wind again, 35 to about 45 mile per hour gusts. So if you have anything that could blow around, that's a good idea to secure that. Here's future cast that we get into tonight, we are not looking at a severe weather risk. We just could still see some stray showers across the area. Tomorrow morning, we start off, we're looking pretty good. No issues for any early church services, starting off your Sunday morning, 0 problems tomorrow morning. Where we start to see at least this line or potential line starting to get closer, is around 1 o'clock to our western counties, and then it pushes through during the mid-afternoon, late afternoon approaching our eastern counties, and then we still have some rain by about 6 to 8 o'clock or so. The severe potential though would be winding down. I would say at the latest between about 7 to 89 o'clock still have some lingering rain, but overall looking pretty good here as we head into late tomorrow night. Here's the severe risk from the storm prediction Center. They do have most of our viewing area, a level 2 out of 5, that has been trimmed back a little bit though. Less of our counties are in that. And at this point, it would not surprise me if they continue to trim a little bit more of that back to really fine tune this. I just think our big question mark tomorrow is how much instability can get into our area. At the moment it's looking like that's going to be a lacking factor for us, but still some storms are likely, I would say. 72 for temperatures though, as we get into tomorrow, it's going to be a warm day across the area. 68 there by New Year's Eve, 56 on New Year's Day. No issues for the holiday, just a stray shower on Tuesday. We're at 72 tomorrow, 67 Monday. Look into next weekend though, there are some signs we could get some big time cold weather, consistent cold weather into most of January.
