Five family members were tortured with hot metal during a home invasion last weekend - a crime that Harnett County Sheriff Wayne Coats calls the most heinous he's ever investigated.

<p>Well, talk with several residents here in this community in Cameron. They say the neighborhood is normally safe and quiet, but all of that was shattered this weekend during a home invasion in this house. Well, I thought nothing like that would ever happen. Jeffrey Miller has lived in this neighborhood for 16 years. The home invasion that took place over the weekend happened two doors down from him. What goes through your head when you know that happened? Two doors down from you. I'm so sorry for the family and, and they tortured his family. There's no other way to put it other than just pure torture. Sheriff Wayne Coates says the home invasion happened while the family was sitting in the garage around two in the morning with the door up. That's when five men burst in, tied them up with duct tape and started torturing them. They described some of the things that they did. Um, they took and put a knife and fork, um, like a butter knife on top of the stove and hated it up and then it, they started sticking it to the bodies. The sheriff says they were looking for guns and money, but there were none. The suspects ransacked the home, even assaulted the Children before getting away in a silver or gray dodge Challenger. The ordeal has neighbors living in fear. But yesterday I had, uh, security and stalled. I thought I was security but now I need to have a, a camera. Now, authorities say the getaway vehicle was parked here while that home invasion was going on.
