A Raleigh police motorcycle was involved in crash Wednesday in downtown Raleigh. The officer involved is expected to be okay.


Raleigh officer crash: No serious injuries after van, police motorcycle crash downtown 

<p>I will say that our crash reconstruction unit was called to the scene to investigate this matter and I asked for the public's patience as we have this road blocked here for the next 2 hours while we conduct that investigation. I also want to thank our community for all their thoughts and concerns and reaching out to me, asking about our officer. I really appreciate that. It really goes a long way in helping officers do their job in keeping the city safe. I know the question is probably being asked what exactly was going on. That is why we're conducting an investigation to find out exactly what happened just prior to the accident. The motor unit, I will say, was on routine patrol. He was not taking any enforcement action as he was traveling on Caber Street, so I am waiting to get the exact details of the investigation, and once it is known, that information will be released through our public affairs office. At this time I'll take any questions that anyone may have about exactly what happened here this morning. Is it safe to say that what we see here is the Sprinter vans. We have two vehicles involved in this matter here. That gray Sprinter van is involved, as well as you see our motorcycle on the side of the road here. They are the only two vehicles involved in this incident. What can you tell us about the officer that was involved? I will tell you he's a 25 year veteran at the Raleigh Police Department. He's been assigned to our traffic enforcement unit for a number of years. He is someone that he's been on our motor unit for a long time. He knows how to ride a motorcycle. He is a great officer, and from what I was told thus far, he was not taking any enforcement action. He was just riding up Caber Street just prior to this accident occurring. you can tell us about the driver of the van as far as do you believe there was any other something that would have impaired his judgment in making the decision. Yes sir, I can't make that determination now. What I can say as you can see we do have our crash reconstruction unit here. They will be going through a series of tests as well as having a conversation with the driver at that Sprinter van to get his version of exactly what occurred just prior to the accident, but I can't make any determination about any impairment or what he was doing prior to the accident. And cooperating but not at this moment. Correct. The driver is cooperating with the officers. He stayed on scene. He was the only occupant in the vehicle at the time of the collision, and he is cooperating with the investigation. CBS, do you have any questions? All right, thank you guys. Thank you all. Mhm.
