WRAL meteorologists are forecasting several days of rain beginning Thursday, which could lead to isolated flooding in portions of our area.



Tracking the rain: Very wet weekend ahead, several days of storms in the forecast 

<p>I'm WRAL meteorologist Kat Campbell. The risk for heavy rain for the weekend into the early part of next week is increasing, and tropical impacts are also looking more likely from a system that could be named Imelda over the weekend. 2 to 4 inches of rain looking more likely. 4 inches would be on more of an isolated basis, but you can bet on a couple of inches of rain over the next 5 days. The first system that brings us rain is a cold front. And this will bring a chance for some scattered showers and storms tonight. Here's the thing, not everybody is going to see rain today and tonight though. The severe weather risk was trimmed back a bit to the western part of our viewing area from Wake County points west today, and tomorrow those storms should be more in our eastern counties. For this afternoon, storms are likely to remain pretty scattered for us. It'll be a more hit or miss during the afternoon hours, but later this evening. And tonight we'll see more scattered showers and storms. These could produce some heavy rain as we head past sunset locally. This model does seem to be a little bit overdone with the coverage, but you get a good idea for the timing here at least. Rain chances stay high after that, an 80% chance of rain Friday night into Saturday, a 70% chance Sunday and still looking pretty wet early next week. Early next week is going to have a lot to. Do with how the tropics play out. Humberto is still not likely to pose a direct threat to us, but the other one that could become Imelda, most of the model plots have shifted today, bringing it into South Carolina early next week. Something to note this is a significant shift, but hurricane hunters flew into the system yesterday, so that data is now going into the models, and they should be a bit more reliable. We'll have a new update from the National Hurricane Center on WYEL news this afternoon.</p>
