BUT SPOKESPERSON SAID OFFICER ROGER SMITH WAS WORKING IN THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT LOBBY AND A STRUGGLE ENSUED. WE DON'T HAVE DETAILS ON WHAT LED UP TO THE SHOOTING. EXACTLY. BUT THEY SAID SMITH LATER DIED FROM HIS INJURIES. GARNER. POLICE DO HAVE A PERSON IN CUSTODY AT THIS TIME RIGHT NOW THERE IS NO THREAT TO THE PUBLIC. NOW WE KNOW THE OFFICERS WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AROUND 9 THIS MORNING. THERE WAS A VERY HEAVY POLICE PRESENCE THERE. THE STATE BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION IS NOW ON SCENE AS WELL INVESTIGATING IT. THE GARNER HEALTHPLEX U.S. EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT LOBBY IS STILL CLOSED FOR THE INVESTIGATION. WAKE-MED SAID COUNSELORS AND ADDITIONAL STAFF WILL BE ON SITE.
