Dangerous heat across the Triangle has prompted a heat advisory and a WRAL Weather Alert Day.

More heat, Level 1 risk for severe storms Monday after hottest day of the year

<p>I'm Wral meteorologist, Elizabeth Gardner. Yep, it's another hot day. As a matter of fact, we're not going to get a break from this heat anytime in the next seven days. So 95 today and tomorrow, uh, and looking at temperatures climbing up to almost 100 again by Wednesday, 95 today in Raleigh and Durham, 97 in Fayetteville. And we do have a chance of a few isolated showers or thunderstorms even this morning. A few sprinkles in our southern counties. Here's a look at that cold front. Now, sometimes a cold front will bring us some relief, but you have to remember what's been happening to the north of us. The folks to the north of us started with heat advisories first for last week. But, um, there's just not a lot of cool air immediately to our north, so we're not going to cool down much. We did hit 100 yesterday. We will be around 95 today for the, uh for the temperature with the heat index right around 100. But again, some showers and thunderstorms could pop up along this front, especially in our southeastern counties. This is a look at it right around lunch time and then into the afternoon and there's two o'clock with a few scattered showers and storms. Mainly east of the triangle along and east of the I 95 quarters where we'll have the best chance of seeing those. A few of those could produce some wind damage. Uh, for parts of Wayne County, Samson and Cumberland County, we have a level one risk for severe storms with the potential of some damaging wind. We are sitting solidly at tropical today. 74 is our due point. That is high, high, high. It may drop a little bit for the next day or so. And then, um, climbing again as we get into wind day and Thursday and that's going to cause our heat index to really climb. We might be back into heat advisory zone by the time we get to the middle of the week. But right now, all the heat advisories across the country for the most part are kind of in the middle of the country. The plains up through the Mississippi Valley, it all has shifted a little bit farther to the west. 89 is our normal high, mid nineties for most of this week, except for Wednesday 99. You know, yesterday we hit 100 for the first time this year and we'll be feeling more like upper nineties to around 100 today and tomorrow, but possibly 105 to 106, Wednesday. And Thursday and 104 is the criteria for a heat advisory. So we could see a heat advisory again, Wednesday and Thursday, we'll be watching out for that. Um, the best chance of any showers and thunderstorms this week is actually Thursday, but of course, we'll see the potential for a few of those today with 40% chance and a 50% chance on Sunday. So at least this week we have a better chance of some scattered showers or storms.</p>
