Other Key Updates as Travel Resumes

CDC Removes Pre-Departure Testing Requirement for Travelers from Hong Kong

The World Health Organization has said COVID-19 is no longer a public health emergency of international concern on May 5. Earlier in March, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention removed the requirement for air passengers from Hong Kong to show a negative COVID-19 test or documentation of recovery before boarding a flight to the United States.

Hong Kong Welcomes Visitors

Dr. Pang Yiu-kai welcomed the Hong Kong Government's announcement on lifting the mask mandate that took effect on March 1. He said, "As the mandatory mask-wearing rule is lifted, all social-distancing measures in Hong Kong have come to an end. Both the local public and all visitors from around the world can now enjoy the many experiences in Hong Kong to the fullest. This not only directly marks Hong Kong's full return to normal but also gives a shot in the arm to the revival of our tourism industry."

Revival of Hong Kong Cruise Tourism

Cruise tourism in Hong Kong is headed towards a steady revival, with five cruise liners making their maiden trips to the city between early March and early April. Resorts World One, the first cruise ship to homeport in Hong Kong since travel fully resumed, embarked on its inaugural tour on March 10. HKTB Executive Director Dane Cheng highlighted the significance of these developments in reaffirming Hong Kong's status as a regional cruise hub and international travel destination. The city welcomes an international line-up of maiden cruise calls, including ships from Germany, the U.K., and Italy. Resorts World One will make three departures per week in the coming year, offering new cruise experiences to consumers. The HKTB has secured 16 cruise lines and over 150 ship calls to Hong Kong and will continue to support cruise companies in maintaining and increasing cruise calls to the city, as well as launching promotional campaigns and building partnerships in the Greater Bay Area.

Dragon Boat Festival Races Resume

The Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races are poised to make a comeback in June after a four-year hiatus. Scheduled for June 24-25 in Victoria Harbour, the event will be co-organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association. This year's competition will host local, Mainland, Taiwanese, and international dragon boat teams. For the first time, cash prizes will be introduced for the winners of the four primary races. As elite dragon boat athletes from around the globe convene in Hong Kong, both residents and tourists will have the chance to experience the thrill of this significant sporting event.
