She was one of the first two female Field Training Officers at Rampart Division, the first female Senior Lead Officer at the same division, and was recognized as “Officer of the Year” in 1987. Her commitment to community safety was further demonstrated through her establishment of a Special Problems Unit targeting gangs and narcotics, for which she received a Meritorious Unit Citation.
Blake’s career included diverse leadership roles, from assistant watch commander to overseeing the Community Relations Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH) unit. In a unique assignment, she served as the Officer-in-Charge of the mounted horse and rider Cavalry unit (VCCRR) at Foothill Division, where she facilitated community outreach and interaction with children—an experience that subtly foreshadowed her creative future.
