Jared Kamrass, the founder of the scholarship, is a Principal with Technicolor Political, a renowned full-service messaging and ad making firm advising Democratic candidates, committees, and progressive causes across the country. Jared's passion for politics ignited when he watched "The West Wing" with his father and brother and experienced the profound impact of Barack Obama's 2004 DNC Convention Speech in Boston.
After his own battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma during college, Jared's focus shifted toward healthcare reform as he witnessed the influence of economic circumstances on health outcomes. Following his remission, he dedicated himself to electing policymakers who strive to eliminate these inequities.
Jared returned to his hometown of Cincinnati after graduating from Ohio State and managed local campaigns before establishing Rivertown Strategies in 2013. Over the span of eight years, Rivertown grew to become one of the premier full-service Democratic consulting firms in the Midwest. The firm extended its reach to several states, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Oregon, and Florida, advising candidate campaigns and independent expenditure committees.
In the 2020 cycle, Jared served as a Senior Advisor to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, providing guidance to candidates and staff in some of the nation's most fiercely contested districts during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and the concurrent presidential campaign. The DCCC played a crucial role in preserving a Democratic majority following that tumultuous cycle.
After the election, Jared joined Technicolor Political as a Principal, assuming responsibilities as an ad maker and media consultant for various clients, including national committees, gubernatorial candidates, members of Congress, and other statewide and local offices. Technicolor Political, the largest majority Black-owned firm in the Democratic Party, focuses on creating and placing content that breaks the mold of traditional political advertising and captivates the attention of voters who often engage with multiple screens simultaneously.
The winner of the Jared Kamrass Scholarship for Public Service will be announced on January 15, 2024, following a rigorous selection process.
