After several weeks of public hearings and suggestions, Wake County leaders voted to pass the proposed budget on Monday. The budget is about $2.08 billion, about a 10.7% increase from the 2024 fiscal year.

YOU'RE LOOKING LIVE AT THE COMMISSION MEETING UNDER WAY WHERE THEY JUST VOTED. WE ARE STILL WAITING TO HEAR HOW THIS WILL IMPACT PROPERTY TAXES. THANKS FOR JOINING US TONIGHT. HE'S LIVE OUTSIDE THE WAKE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MEETING AARON. >> WE DO KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY THEY GAVE TO SCHOOLS AT THIS POINT. WHAT ELSE WE KNOW? >> THAT IS CORRECT. AND IN FACT, WE'RE GOING TO CRUNCH THESE NUMBERS FOR YOU. SO WE JUST LEARNED FROM THIS MEETING THAT'S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW THAT MORE THAN 702 MILLION DOLLARS WILL BE GOING TOWARDS THE STATE'S LARGEST SCHOOL DISTRICT JUST TO PUT INTO PERSPECTIVE, HOW BIG OF A DEAL EDUCATION IS FOR THESE COUNTY LEADERS. IS THAT MORE THAN 54% OF THIS BUDGET WILL FUND WAKE COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM AS WELL AS WAKE TECH COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND SMART START EVERY COMMISSIONER HERE. THEY TALK ABOUT THE DIFFERENT CHALLENGES THAT WASN'T PASSING THIS BUDGET. THEY MENTION THINGS LIKE INFLATION, THE POPULATION GROWTH, THIS NAME A FEW FACTORS OF TONIGHT'S MEETING COMES AFTER MANY WEEKS OF PUBLIC HEARINGS, COMMISSIONERS LISTENED TO COMMENTS AND CONCERNS FROM WAKE COUNTY TAXPAYERS AMONG THE CROWD THAT WE'VE BEEN FOCUSING ON ALL THOSE EDUCATORS WHO WORK AND WAKE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS. THEY'VE BEEN PUSHING FOR COUNTY LEADERS TO ADJUST THE PROPOSAL. PRIVATE SCHOOLS. TONIGHT, WE'VE LEARNED THAT THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, THEY ADDED THE 58 MILLION DOLLAR INCREASE FOR THE DISTRICT SCHOOL DISTRICT. THEY WANT IT 6 TO 3 MILLION DOLLARS. MARK, THIS MEANS THAT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO CUT NO GUNS FROM THEIR OPERATING BUDGET. TONIGHT, WE HEARD FROM CHRISTINE A SPEAR. SHE IS A SPECIAL EDUCATION, SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER. SHE SAYS THAT THE AMENDMENT MAKES IT IS MUCH NEEDED. IT RAISES FOR TEACHERS POSSIBLE AS WELL AS AN INVESTMENT AND THE CLASSROOM >> I ASK THAT YOU CONSIDER A FRIENDLY AMENDMENT TO MANAGER ELLIS'S BUDGET AND FULLY FUND WAKE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS REQUEST. THIS IS A HISTORIC INCREASE. THIS IS A HISTORIC MOMENT WHEN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS ENDING ESSER FUNDING AND THE STATE GOVERNMENT IS IGNORING COURT DECISIONS AND THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL OBLIGATION, YOU CAN BE A HISTORY MAKER WITH YOUR VOTES TONIGHT. >> AND THOSE COMMENTS YOU JUST HEARD THERE FROM CHRISTINA SPEARS THAT ACTUALLY CAME MOMENTS BEFORE ALL THE COMMISSIONERS VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO APPROVE THIS MORE THAN 2 BILLION DOLLAR BUDGET. Just after 2:30 p.m., Fayetteville police officers responded to a shooting on the 500 block of Albany Street.

According to Highway Patrol, the chase started in Wilson Mills off of U.S. 70 and reached speeds of 145 mph. Authorities said they were pursuing a man and woman, later identified as Kahshon Nahkiem Cunningham and Promise Allure Hope, on several drug charges.
