On the demo day, several prominent guests were invited to deliver opening remarks, including Director General Andrea Hsu, Department of Academia-Industry Collaboration and Science Park Affairs, National Science and Technology Council. She encourages that “On today’s demo day, we look forward to the cooperation between hospitals and start-ups to develop innovative technologies.” Also, Arthur Chen, managing partner of BE Health Ventures, made an official launch of the “innovative high-value medical devices incubating program” at the event.
Being dedicated in the medical devices area for years, BE is fully aware of the importance for building an ecosystem of innovative high-value medical devices and CDMO. So, it meant a lot for BE to launch the program on the demo day, and to establish the foundation of Taiwan’s key role in worldwide innovation.
The CEO Janet Huang of Show Chwan Health Care System, who rarely appears in public, also specified the entrepreneurial story of his father, the president Huang Min-ho, to encourage start-ups: “Show Chwan Health Care System is the largest medical group founded by doctors in Taiwan. In addition to the demo of startups, BE and Show Chwan Health Care System especially organized a panel which invited prestigious speakers including Dr. Lee Swanstrom from the IHU Strasbourg, Dr. Luis Romagnolo from the Barretos Cancer Hospital, Dr. Michel Chu, president of ITIC, and Yen Chen Huang, vice president of Diamond Biofund. In the panel, they would cover the topic: “VC x MedTech: The Global Perspectives to Accelerate International Growth”, sharing the new trends of minimally invasive surgery and the possible ways to go global. The combination of “Show Chwan Health Care System x IRCAD x BE” had jointly incubated startups of MIS medical technology, there are teams from the U.S., South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore, covering fields ranging from AI precision medicine, AI disease prediction, big data analysis platform, nanotechnology treatment, intelligent care equipment, minimally invasive surgery image analysis, etc., and unlike usual, this time the oversea recruitment was up to 40%. Apart from the remarkable teams from the United States, Taiwan, and Singapore, the program also enrolled a Korean team for the very first time. This great achievement resulted from Taiwan’s abundant medical resources and Taiwan’s unique role in the global healthcare ecosystem as well.
The brilliant achievement of raising over 7M USD for U.S. start-up in a single round.
Advanced NanoTherapies (ANT), a U.S.-based start-up team with high market value potential, utilizes its drug-coated balloon (DCB) to safely release long-term drugs to treat Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), which is likely to hit double-digit annual revenue growth over the next decade. During the acceleration, BE Health Ventures and Show Chwan Health Care System linked investors and investment institutions from the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, etc., and to support ANT in completing the new A round of USD 7M fundraising. At present, ANT is about to conduct clinical trials at O.S.U FIH in Australia in October this year, and afterwards they will conduct clinical research and consultations at Show Chwan Health Care System in Taiwan.
